For Anyone on the Job Market Right Now
Four Steps to Move Forward With Clarity and Confidence
Lately, we’ve had a wave of new coaching clients who are navigating the job market — some by choice, others by circumstance.
No matter how you arrived here, we want to offer a few themes I’ve seen transform people’s journeys. These are the same foundations we build with our clients, and we hope they serve you too.
1. Make Peace With Where You Are — Then Keep Moving Forward
Change can feel jarring, especially when it wasn’t part of your plan. One of my favorite quick reads, Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, M.D., captures this beautifully. It highlights the difference between being frozen by change and being wired to seek out the next “new cheese” — the opportunities you didn’t even know you needed.
Give yourself permission to accept the moment you’re in, and then take the next small step forward.
2. Reconnect With Your Strengths
You’ve built a career on real skills, real wins, and real value. Take time to reflect on what you’re great at, what energizes you, and what you want more of.
Affirm your goals daily. Remind yourself of the strengths that have carried you this far. Confidence isn’t a switch — it’s a practice.
3. Do the Internal Work
The last few years have stretched all of us. Before you step into your next chapter, ask yourself:
What do I need to let go of
What habits or behaviors did I pick up that I don’t want to carry forward
What was I afraid to admit I didn’t know
This is your moment to rewrite your story — not just for employers, but for yourself. Growth starts with honesty, curiosity, and compassion.
4. Strengthen Your Employment Brand
Once you’ve done the internal work, it’s time to show the world who you are professionally.
Ask yourself:
Does my résumé clearly communicate the value I bring
Does it align with the job I’m applying for
Does my LinkedIn tell the same story
Do I have examples and accomplishments that bring my value to life
Your employment brand is more than documents — it’s the narrative you carry into every conversation, interview, and opportunity.
A Final Word
After years of coaching professionals through transitions, one truth remains constant:
You will find what’s meant for you.
In the great words of Sugar Free, “If you stay ready, you don’t got to get ready.”
Stay grounded. Stay open. Stay ready.
